Inspired by the tradition of social photography and equipped with a big
sense of justice, Lisa Van Damme (°1985) started studying photography at
the age of 17. For her, photography is more than a goal, it is first and
foremost a means to look at the world and at the same time to hold up a
mirror to that same world. Although interested in social problems she’ll always act with respect for her subjects, refusing to search for the
sensational or the dramatic. She aims to depict the people she photographs
as full dignified human beings. At present she works for the Belgian
national newspaper 'De Standaard' and teaches photography. She devotes her
spare time working on socially engaged and personal projects.
